THE DESCRIPTION:
NewsRob is a free client for Google Reader, Google’s RSS feed aggregator.
THE GOOD:
When you first pick up NewsRob it seems pretty simple, but there are actually a number of features thrown in which catch you by surprise. NewsRob includes a built-in browser; when you tap a feed article’s link in the application, NewsRob doesn’t just close and launch the page in Android’s default browser. Instead, it displays the page inline, with buttons for marking the article as read and returning to the feed.
NewsRob also has the option to download webpages for offline viewing. You can browse without phone service, if you download your data beforehand. Each feed can be customized with its own settings or all can default to the settings you specify in Preferences.
THE BAD:
NewsRob has an unpolished interface, and lacks any method of adding feeds to a Reader account. In order to do so, you have to log in to Google’s website and do it from there.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
There are other RSS readers out there which are also free and allow you to add feeds within the application by copying and pasting links. This isn’t that much more convenient, however, and considering the powerful webpage handling that NewsRob has, it is the best option.
